How Clean is Your Air Fryer?

.

New survey insights from Expert Reviews have revealed that nearly a third (32%) of UK adults who own an air fryer aren’t cleaning it often enough.

Despite experts suggesting that air fryer baskets should be washed after every use, the Expert Reviews survey of 2091 UK adults highlighted that 32% of UK air fryer owners clean it only once a week or less.

Younger age groups don’t wash their air fryers often enough

According to the survey findings, older age groups report cleaning their air fryer more often compared to younger age groups, such as Gen Z.

Gen Z were found to be among the respondents who report cleaning their air fryers less frequently, with just 30% of 18-24 year olds saying they clean it after each use, compared to 73% of people aged 55 and over

Men also proved slightly less likely than women to get their air fryer cleaned after every use, as women were 10% more likely to say that they clean their air fryer the recommended amount compared to men.

4 tips to keep your newly cleaned air fryer in good condition:

To help prolong the lifespan of your newly-washed air fryer and enjoy its speedy, sustainable and energy-efficient benefits for longer, Expert Reviews have shared 4 tips to keep your air fryer in top condition:

  1. Use silicone liners or paper:

This helps to reduce mess and protect your air fryer basket.

  1. Don’t overfill your air fryer:

Overfilling your air fryer can leave you with soggy food and may also lead to crumbs and grease getting into the internal structure of your appliance.

  1. Ensure your air fryer's hot air vent isn’t facing directly into an electrical socket:

For best results, you could use your air fryer near your stovetop’s extractor hood.

  1. Add salt once food has been removed from the air fryer basket:

Salt granules can create micro scratches on the non-stick coating of your air fryer basket.

Expert Reviews’ Air Fryer Expert, Danielle Amato, comments:

We recommend giving your air fryer and any associated peripherals a clean after every use.

Small crumbs, grease and general grime build up in your basket after each use and can sometimes be hard to spot on the  darkly coloured interiors of your air fryer.

Though your basket or plate may look clean after a simple cook, multiple uses without cleaning can cause dirt to bake on or burn, making future cleans more difficult, negatively impacting the flavour of your food and even potentially damaging your air fryer’s non-stick coating.

More rarely, you’ll want to clean the interior and heating coil of your unit, as internal build-ups can impact the performance of your air fryer and potentially shorten its lifespan. Most manufacturers recommend cleaning an air fryer's heating element and non-removable parts roughly once a month.”
