Dr Mare has a PhD in microbiology/biotechnology with vast experience in a wide variety of related fields, including business and sales skills. For the past 11 years, she has been working for an International Corporate Company and has gained considerable business knowledge and skills. She is well experienced in financial and project planning, business relations and protocol, customer and distributor training and management, marketing knowledge and expertise, product management, launch of new products, marketing, and management of global key accounts.
Before her corporate experience, she was involved in research. Her work experience includes Research Positions at the Agricultural Research Institute of South Africa, between April 1994 and March 2010, with a 3-year break in between (2000 – 2003) to complete her PhD practical. She currently hold the position of Sales and Technical Manager for 3M Food Safety division in South Africa and has worked at 3M for over 10 years.

- University of Stellenbosch Master of Science (MS), Microbiology, obtained in 1997
- University of Pretoria/Universiteit van Pretoria BSc (Agriculture), Microbiology, obtained in 1991
Her interests are photography, sketching, fly fishing, movies, water, reading (current affairs) and music.
