Food Focus Newsletter 3 of 2024

In recent weeks, the peanut butter industry faced a wave of recalls. The National Consumer Commission (NCC) announced yesterday that all manufacturers of peanut butter, peanut butter-based products  and products with peanuts (including but not limited to chocolates, sweets, cookies, ice cream, and
peanut butter spreads) to immediately test for aflatoxin and present their results to the NCC within 14 days. Suppliers are also required to submit their Hazzard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP)
Certificates.

Manufacturers should prioritize responsibility by emphasizing stringent supply chain scrutiny and insisting on supplier certifications for quality controls. Such certifications significantly reduce risk exposure and offer confidence in product safety when coupled with thorough risk assessments.

Hearteningly, manufacturers proactively recall products as a precautionary measure, showcasing their dedication to delivering safe products. These actions underscore an industry unified in the common goal of ensuring safe food production for public consumption.
