They've been a long time coming, but the draft Regulations for Food Labelling are finally here! We have not had new labelling regulations since R146 of 2010 – as the draft R429 regulations published in 2014 were never finalized. Comprised of 240 odd pages, with 10 annexures, there is a lot to cover.

Once approved, these will replace the Labelling and Advertising of Foodstuffs Regulations (Government Notice No. R. 146 of 1 March 2010), Government Notice No. R1091 of 19 November 2010, Government Notice No. R45 of 19 January 2012, and Regulation 6(2) of R3128 of 20 December 1991.

You have until the 30th of April 2023 to submit your comments to the Department of Health.
