Six Dogs Distillery Donates Hand Sanitiser to Curb COVID19

An animal rescue group, police services, medical suppliers and a non-profit organisation providing housing for the elderly are not organisations that one would normally associate with an artisanal gin manufacturer based in the rural Western Cape near Worcester.

These organisations are all, however, now better prepared to deal with the Coronavirus pandemic following donations of bottles of handmade, fragrant yet highly effective, hand sanitiser.

Six Dogs Distillery directors Charles and Glenn Bryant and Luigi Marucchi decided to act quickly when they heard that supplies of denatured alcohol, the germ-fighting ingredient in hand sanitisers, were scarce due to the outbreak of COVID-19 in South Africa.

They agreed to use stocks of alcohol in their Distillery to create Six Dogs hand sanitisers made out of 70 percent potable alcohol. These were scented with uplifting rose pelargonium, a botanical grown near the distillery in De Wet and used in their popular Blue gin.

In total, seventy-five litres, dispensed into five litre containers, were manufactured.

Charles Bryant, founder and distiller of Six Dogs Distillery, said: “This gesture was a small contribution from us to those who are particularly vulnerable, or are in the frontline of fighting the spread of the virus.”

Members of the public were invited to nominate worthy causes on social media and the Six Dogs team promptly set out to deliver hand sanitiser to the selected organisations before the lockdown commenced at midnight on Thursday, 26 March.

Recipients included YMS Medical, CSO Medical, DARG, SAPS Claremont, Abbeyfield House and Rotary Lions Roundtable.

Established in 2013 and situated on Boschkloof Farm, Six Dogs Distillery passionately provides both local and international craft spirit fanatics with Six Dogs Karoo, Six Dogs Blue and Six Dogs Pinotage-Stained craft gin.
