Sara Mortimore joins Walmart as Vice President of Global Food Safety Compliance

Sara Mortimore has joined Walmart as their new Vice President, Global Food Safety Compliance, and will spearhead compliance within the group. She succeeds Frank Yiannas, who left this position to join the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

“It’s an honor to join a recognized leader in food safety,” says Mortimore, “Walmart has embraced emerging digital technologies while not losing sight of the foundational elements of sound food safety management. It is adapting to an increasingly complex global supply chain and changing consumer demands with an innovative mindset in food safety that is exciting to now be part of.”

Mortimore's most recent appointment was at Land O’Lakes, where she served as Vice President, Product Safety, Quality and Regulatory Affairs and was responsible for product safety, quality, and regulatory within all Land O’ Lakes businesses, farm to fork.  This included both human and animal food manufacturing and distribution.

Having  studied Food Science and Technology at Seale-Hayne Agriculture College and earned her Master of Science from Leicester University, both in the UK, Mortimore has since added 30 years of quality and food safety management experience across the entire supply chain to her portfolio.

She is a co-author on a number of well-known books on the topic of food safety and in particular the HACCP system. Her main academic interest is the development of integrated food safety and quality management using a risk-based approach.

Mortimore has big shoes to fill, but she looks more than ready for the challenge of managing the company’s comprehensive food safety program and taking Walmart's food safety compliance to the next level.
