A Match Made in Mzansi

.

As South Africans, we've always been known for our tenacity and resilience. We face challenges head-on, just like the flames that ignite our braais. Throw anything at us, and we, the people of Mzansi, will stick it out like nobody's business.

This Heritage Day, Nando's is honouring their indomitable spirit by gifting customers at selected restaurants with limited edition matches, specially made by Nando’s and inspired by the Cabo Sosatie Flatbread skewers.

These matches aren’t just for lighting your braai or chasing away mosquitoes—they’re practically a national symbol at this point! They represent our knack for making a plan and our legendary ability to bounce back from just about anything.

During the dark days of Covivi, and with only R700 saved from a R350 Covid-19 grant, Thando Makhubu from Jabulani, Soweto, started his own ice cream business during South Africa's initial hard lockdown. The freelance photographer launched Soweto Creamery in his mother's house after gigs were cancelled due to lockdown restrictions. He now employs four people. Talk about resilience. He even received a special mention from President Cyril Ramaphosa during the 2022 State of the Nation Address.

When you use these matches to light your fire on September 24, we hope you're reminded of the never-say-die, nou-gaan-ons-braai spirit that lives in us all!

Let’s celebrate our heritage together and ignite the flames of our resilience!
