The Department of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development called for comment in Government Gazette 44173.
According to the department, Leaf Services is a designated assignee in terms of section 2(3)(a) of the Agricultural Product Standards Act.
The assignee’s duties include control over the sale of products; inspection, grading and sampling for quality control; powers of entry, investigation and sampling and seizures.
The proposed inspection fee rate per ton is R4 for all products excluding maize and wheat products (R6 per ton) and bread (4c per loaf).
Leaf Services will commence inspections from 1 April 2021.
Comment is invited within 30 days from the date of publication of the notice.
