Introduction

You have achieved certification for health and safety but aren’t seeing true benefits? This article provides an overview of the compliance journey from novice to advanced. As an advanced you will have conquered certification and you are looking for innovative ways to improve your health and safety system. You need to know about new trends and changes to the standards.

Remember our approach to compliance

When we tackle a new project or idea we very often instinctively use this approach:

This cycle was made famous by a quality guru called Dr Deming.
This is the cycle we actively follow in our articles to help guide you in your compliance journey.

In the advanced stage we formally use this approach to improve your health and safety management system. You have completed one cycle and now need to raise the bar and focus on improvement activities.

What is an advanced?

We think you are someone who has a safety officer and a certified health and safety management system possibly to OSHAS 18001. You need to transition your system to ISO 45001. You are also interested in building a safety culture and going beyond compliance to behaviour based safety management.

What must an advanced be able to know and do?

Our intention with articles aimed at the advanced is to challenge you with new ideas. We also want you to be up to date with new trends and research. We want to hear from you too. Our forum gives you the ideal platform to share your knowledge with novice and intermediates. We provide information on the interpretation of the new standard and how to transition your system. Our focus at this level is on integration and maximizing the efficiency and effectiveness of your systems.
