AFMA participates in 13th International Feed Regulators Meeting

The 13th International Feed Regulators Meeting (IFRM) was held on 27-28 January in Atlanta, USA.  Mr De Wet Boshoff and Mrs Liesl Breytenbach of AFMA joined 140 feed industry representatives and government officials from more than 30 countries around the world to participate in discussion on critical issues facing the feed sector with the International Feed Industry Federation (IFIF) and the Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).

The delegation included representatives from Africa (Ghana, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Uganda), regulators from Europe (EU, EFSA, Netherlands, Switzerland), Middle East (UAE), Asia Pacific (Australia, Bhutan, Myanmar) as well from the Americas (USA, Canada, Jamaica, Dominican Republic) and the FAO and Codex.

 

Mr De Wet Boshoff attended the meeting in his capacity as a member of the AFMA Board, and member of the International Feed Industry Federation (IFIF) Board, while Mrs Liesl Breytenbach attended in her capacity as AFMA’s Technical & Regulatory Affairs Manager, and a member of the IFIF Regulatory Committee.

 

Mr Boshoff said this annual meeting provides a platform for dialogue between the public and private sector to discuss and find solutions for issues such as food and feed safety, public health, and animal health and welfare.  Furthermore, the meeting gave a global insights into the new developments and challenges in the animal feed environment, including Sustainability, Regulatory matters, Capacity development & Training and animal health issues i.e. African swine fever and Avian influenza (AI).

 

“A day prior to the IFRM a joint workshop was held between AFMA and representatives from the Animal Nutrition Association of Canada (ANAC) and the Stock Feed Manufacturers Council of Australia (SFMCA) discussing feed safety and assurance systems.  The outcome of the discussions was very successful and we are looking forward to continuous and more frequent cooperation,” said Mr Boshoff.

 

The 14th IFRM will be held on 25-26 January 2021 in Atlanta, USA.
